Polestar 5: the future of luxury electric mobility has arrived
The new Polestar 5 – the direct rival of the Porsche Taycan, unveiled at the Munich Motor Show
At the Munich Motor Show, the scene was stolen by a model that caught all eyes, including our team at the Rentsilvania car rental Satu Mare office: the Polestar 5 2026, the Swedish brand’s newest electric performance sedan. For those who may not have heard of Polestar yet, it’s worth mentioning that we are talking about a relatively young manufacturer, but with huge ambitions. Polestar is a brand founded by Volvo and backed by the Chinese group Geely, known for its special attention to quality, technology and sustainability. Although it was initially a performance division for Volvo models, Polestar has now become a stand-alone brand, specializing exclusively in premium electric cars and minimalist Scandinavian design.
The Polestar 5 is, without a doubt, the brand’s most important model to date – an electric Grand Tourer with a length of approximately 5 meters, built on a completely new platform. In a world where electric cars are becoming more and more powerful and luxurious, the Polestar 5 comes to attack some of its most respected rivals head-on: the Porsche Taycan and the BMW i5. And it does so with extremely convincing arguments – spectacular design inspired by the Polestar Precept concept, cutting-edge technology and a top version with no less than 884 horsepower, capable of offering acceleration worthy of a sports car.
The unveiling in Munich was not just a simple presentation of a new model. It was a declaration of intent from Polestar: that the Swedish brand is ready to play in the big league, alongside established giants. And for electric car enthusiasts, the Polestar 5 is not just a car, but a symbol of the future of mobility – fast, elegant and sustainable.
Spectacular design inspired by aviation
The Polestar 5 is a true design statement, managing to bring the spectacular lines of the Polestar Precept concept to production with very few changes. The result is a 5-meter-long electric Grand Tourer, with a minimalist style and clean surfaces, free from unnecessary ornaments. Inspired by aviation, the body profile is reminiscent of an airplane wing, and the rear adopts a Kamm-tail design, for aerodynamic efficiency.
Under the body, the Polestar 5 hides an all-new aluminum platform, built specifically for this model. This architecture has allowed designers to create a low and aggressive silhouette, avoiding the “raised” look of many electric sedans based on SUV platforms. The hood is very low, and the front is dominated by the SmartZone grille – already familiar from the Precept concept – and the slim Pixel LED headlights, which are offered as standard.
From the side, the proportions are impressive: the Polestar 5 is longer than a Toyota Land Cruiser, but the sloping roofline gives it an elegant and sporty air. The optional 22-inch wheels perfectly fill the wheel arches, and the trim in gloss black or Shade visually reduces the height of the body, giving it a posture that is more “sticky” to the road. From the profile, we also notice that the door handles retract into the body to increase the car’s aerodynamics.
The interior has not been sacrificed in the name of design. Thanks to clever engineering, the roof drops without reducing space for rear passengers. In addition, the panoramic roof – the largest ever installed on a Polestar, with a length of over 2 meters – creates a bright and airy atmosphere in the cabin.
The rear of the car is just as spectacular: the Polestar 5 completely abandons the classic rear window, just like the Polestar 4, using a system of digital mirrors and a virtual window. The rear lights form a unique light strip with integrated aerodynamic details, and the aggressive air diffuser in the rear bumper contributes to a drag coefficient of just 0.24 – remarkable for a car of this size.
Polestar 5 will be available in six stylish shades, including two matte paint options: Storm, a strong and imposing gray, and Magnesium, a light shade with a metallic look.
Minimalist interior, Scandinavian luxury and sustainable solutions
If the exterior of the Polestar 5 inspires dynamism, the interior conquers you with refinement and attention to detail. Once you open the door, the feeling is similar to entering a luxury Scandinavian apartment: airy space, simple lines and a calm atmosphere. Minimalism is not taken to the extreme – as we see in some Tesla models – but manages to combine elegance with functionality, while offering a feeling of warmth and comfort.
The materials used in the cabin perfectly reflect the brand's philosophy: open-pore wood comes from sustainable sources, and solid metal accents give a premium air. Instead of the classic carbon fiber inserts, Polestar opted for Amplitex, an innovative material made of flax fibers, light and environmentally friendly, used even for the seat backrests. In the door pockets and under the trunk floor we find recycled plastic, sourced from PET bottles, a subtle detail that reminds us of the concern for sustainability.
The driving position is low, exactly as it should be in a performance Grand Tourer, and the generous adjustments for the seats and steering column allow anyone to find the perfect position. Behind the steering wheel is a 9-inch screen, mounted in such a way that it is always in the driver's field of vision. In addition, a 9.5-inch Head-Up Display projects essential information directly onto the windshield, which reinforces clear orientation to the driver.
One of the distinctive features that the Rentsilvania rent a car Satu Mare airport company noted in the Polestar 5 2026 is the absence of the classic rear window. The digital rear-view mirror takes a little getting used to, but the benefit is clear: the panoramic glass roof extends all the way behind the second-row passengers, flooding the interior with natural light. The feeling is private, almost limousine-like, especially thanks to the individual rear seats, which can slide and recline for maximum comfort on long journeys.
Although the car has a low silhouette, passengers do not suffer from a lack of space. The floor is not excessively raised – a common problem with many electric models – because the battery has special cutouts in the footwell area. The result is a natural seating position, with comfortably angled knees and enough leg and headroom.
In terms of practicality, the boot offers 365 liters of usable space, and by folding the rear seats this increases to 1,128 liters – enough for holiday luggage or a long weekend. In addition, under the hood there is a 62-liter frunk (front trunk), perfect for charging cables or small luggage.
State-of-the-art technology for a premium experience
Polestar 5 is not only a spectacular Grand Tourer in design – it is also a true technological showcase. The low center console, elegantly integrated between the front seats, houses a lockable storage space, and above it sits the rotary controller for the audio system and the 14.5-inch center display, mounted vertically. This display runs an Android Automotive operating system developed specifically for Polestar, with Google integrated, providing an intuitive and familiar experience. The interface can be customized according to the driver's preferences, and frequently used functions can be accessed instantly, directly from the main screen.
The auditory experience is also superb: customers can choose the Polestar High Performance Audio system with 10 speakers or the audio system that Rentsilvania rent a car airport Satu Mare agency recommends to any customer - the impressive Bowers & Wilkins with 21 speakers, "Tweeter-on-Top" technology and a power of 1680 W. The "laser-line" ambient light discreetly surrounds the interior, ending in a sound bar located behind the passengers, and the Active Road Noise Cancellation system filters out road noise, transforming the cabin into a relaxing space.
Polestar 5 is also equipped with a full package of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The front SmartZone area houses the sensors, radar and front parking camera, all of which are discreetly integrated into the car's design. The Pilot Assist system allows you to maintain your lane and adapt your speed to the traffic ahead, operating up to 150 km/h – ideal for motorways.
In total, the Polestar 5 uses 11 cameras, a driver monitoring camera, a medium-range radar and 12 ultrasonic sensors, all working together to prevent collisions and provide a safe driving experience. The model is also equipped with eight airbags and uses an interior radar system that detects the number and position of passengers to optimally deploy the airbags in the event of an accident.
All these technological solutions make the Polestar 5 not only a fast and stylish car, but also one of the safest and most connected options on the current electric vehicle market.
Electrifying performance and top-notch autonomy
The Polestar 5 impresses not only with its design and technology, but also with its supercar performance. The model is available in two versions: Dual Motor and Performance, both equipped with an 800 V electric platform – a first for Polestar – and a 106 kWh battery.
The standard Dual Motor version develops 748 hp and 812 torque, enough to propel the sedan from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. That's already faster than a Porsche Taycan 4S, which says a lot about the ambitions of the Swedes. For those who want even more adrenaline, Polestar offers the Performance version, which delivers no less than 884 hp and 1015 Nm of torque. The result? A lightning-fast acceleration of 3.2 seconds to 100 km/h, fast enough to overtake even a Taycan GTS or a BMW i5 M60.
Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h for both versions, but the real asset of the Polestar 5 is the balance between power and autonomy. The Dual Motor version can travel up to 670 km (WLTP) on a single charge, while the Performance version offers a range of up to 565 km – an excellent result for a model with such power. For greater efficiency, the rear motor can be disengaged when not needed, reducing energy consumption.
Thanks to the 800 V architecture, the Polestar 5 supports fast charging of up to 350 kW. This means that the battery can be charged from 10 to 80% in just 22 minutes on a suitable DC charger – enough to take a coffee break and be ready for hundreds of kilometers more.
The roadholding is matched by the performance: the double wishbone suspension at both the front and rear, together with magnetic dampers, ensures agile behavior and exemplary stability even at high speeds. The Polestar 5 thus manages to be both a comfortable luxury GT for long journeys and a sports car capable of providing pure driving pleasure.
Availability and prices in Europe and Romania
Polestar 5 is already available for order in Romania and on European markets, being one of the most anticipated electric models of the year. The Swedish manufacturer aims to attract customers looking for an exclusive electric Grand Tourer, with top performance and impressive autonomy.
The launch prices are commensurate with the premium positioning of the model: the Dual Motor version starts at approximately 120,000 euros, while the Performance variant has an indicative price of 140,000 euros. Both can be configured online, with options for customizing colors, technology packages and rims.
Deliveries for customers in Romania and the rest of Europe are scheduled to begin next year, and Polestar promises to offer advantageous financing solutions and dedicated service. For enthusiasts of performance electric cars, Polestar 5 promises to be a reference choice.
Conclusion
The Polestar 5 is not just a new electric model – it is a declaration of intent by the Swedish brand that it wants to play in the big league, where until now only established names like Porsche and BMW competed. With a spectacular aviation-inspired design, a minimalist and luxurious interior, state-of-the-art technology and performance that can make even some supercars jealous, the Polestar 5 manages to be more than just a car: it is a complete premium mobility experience.
The high prices and niche positioning only add to the exclusivity of this model, which has become a real object of desire for electric car enthusiasts. For those who dream of a fast, stylish and environmentally friendly Grand Tourer, the Polestar 5 represents the future – and the future looks extremely promising.
