MG expands its range in Europe: New large S9 plug-in hybrid SUV ready for launch

MG S9: The New 7-Seat Flagship That Redefines the PHEV SUV Segment in Europe and Romania

The British-Chinese manufacturer MG (Morris Garages) continues its aggressive offensive on the European market, publishing the first official images and technical details of the new MG S9. This launch marks a historic moment for the brand: the introduction of the first large seven-seat SUV equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, designed to compete directly with established models such as the Kia Sorento or Hyundai Santa Fe.

An Impressive and Aerodynamic Design

From the first images published, the MG S9 stands out with a robust and modern presence. The front is dominated by a massive grille, flanked by very pronounced air intakes in the bumper, elements that give it an aggressive look.

With a length of approximately 4.98 meters and a generous wheelbase of 2.92 meters, the new SUV promises remarkable interior space. There is no shortage of fine details: the door handles are integrated (hidden) to optimize aerodynamics, and the rear is marked by LED taillights joined by a continuous light strip, the visual signature of the new MG generations.

Technology and Efficiency: 100 km in Electric Mode

Under the bonnet, the MG S9 borrows proven technology from the new HS models, but adapts it for its larger size. The hybrid system consists of a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a powerful electric motor, developing a total output of 272PS.

The highlight of this model is the 24.7 kWh battery, which allows for an electric range of up to 100 kilometers (WLTP). This performance places the S9 at the top of its segment, giving users the ability to make most daily urban trips without consuming a drop of gasoline.

Premium Interior and Versatility

Although the cabin has been kept under wraps, leaked information suggests a digitalized interior with dual 12.3-inch screens and premium material finishes. The seven-seat configuration is the main argument for large families.

Luggage compartment: With all seats up, the volume is 332 liters, but this expands to 1,000 liters by folding the third row, offering extreme flexibility for transporting bulky luggage.

MG in Romania: A Fulminant Growth

MG's presence on the Romanian market is a recent success story. Officially entering the local market through importer Quantum Auto Max, the brand has managed to consolidate a network of over 30 dealers nationwide in record time.

In 2025, MG reached the historic milestone of one million cars delivered in Europe, and Romania plays an active role in this expansion. The brand's popularity among Romanians is mainly due to its price-quality ratio and the generous 7-year warranty ("Triple 7 Care"), which includes roadside assistance and free technical inspections.

Models like the MG ZS (the best-selling small SUV for several months last year) and the electric MG4 paved the way for the new S9. With the launch of this large SUV, MG is now attacking the premium-accessible segment, offering cutting-edge PHEV technology at prices expected to be significantly lower than those of European or Japanese competitors.

Availability

The first MG S9 units are expected to arrive in Romanian showrooms towards the end of this year or early 2026. With a safety rating already confirmed by 5 Euro NCAP stars, the new MG flagship promises to quickly become a common sight on our roads, consolidating the brand's position as a top player in the transition to electrified mobility.
