Major update for Xiaomi SU7: Record range of 902 km and starting price of 28.000 euros

Xiaomi SU7 (2026): The smartphone on wheels receives a major "Update", but remains a forbidden fruit for Europeans

While traditional automakers take four or five years to launch a facelift, Xiaomi seems to be applying the same recipe for success from phones to the auto industry: rapid iterations and cutting-edge technology delivered “yesterday.” Just two years after its market-shaking debut, the Chinese giant has announced a series of critical improvements to its electric sedan, the SU7, transforming it into a range- and safety-conscious beast.

1. "Long-range" range: 902 km on a single charge

The biggest change comes under the hood. Xiaomi has overhauled the electrical architecture, switching to a high-voltage system (Silicon Carbide) on all versions. The result? The SU7 Pro version has officially become the "endurance king", boasting an astonishing range of 902 kilometers (in the CLTC cycle).

The top of the range, the SU7 Max, is no slouch either. Although it has “only” 835 km of autonomy, it benefits from an 897-volt architecture, allowing for ultra-fast charging: you can recover 670 km of autonomy in just 15 minutes.
Basically, by the time you drink your coffee, the car is ready for a Bucharest-Vienna trip.

2. Safety, prioritized after hard lessons

Xiaomi has shown that it knows how to listen to criticism. After the highly publicized incidents in China regarding door locking after accidents, engineers completely redesigned the mechanism.

  • External mechanical mechanism: All doors now have handles that allow mechanical opening from the outside, without depending on electrical current.
  • Backup power source: An emergency battery dedicated exclusively to the locks has been installed under the rear seat, guaranteeing their operation even if the main 12V battery is destroyed in an impact.
  • Structural armor: The body now uses ultra-high-strength steel (2,200 MPa), providing increased protection for passengers.

3. "First Class" interior and Nvidia brain

The cabin has been refined to compete with the European premium segment. The central 16.1-inch display is now the center of an ecosystem driven by the new Nvidia Drive Thor computing platform (standard on all models), with 700 TOPS of processing power.

What else do you find new inside?

  • Sporty comfort: The driver's seat is adjustable in 18 directions and the steering wheel is covered in fine Nappa leather.
  • Complete silence: All four windows are now made of laminated glass, for significantly superior sound insulation.
  • Small details, big impact: An integrated mini-fridge that can cool down to -6°C and a 105-liter, electrically operated front trunk (frunk).

4. Design and prices that seem "out of this world"

The exterior retains the fluid lines that earned it the nickname "the Chinese Taycan," but adds three vibrant new colors: Blazing Red, Coastal Blue, and Viridian Green. All versions now come equipped with a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor and 4D radar, a sign that Xiaomi wants to democratize autonomous driving.

Despite these massive upgrades, price remains the Chinese's great weapon:

  • Standard: approx. €27,800 (720 km range)
  • Pros: approx. €31,600 (902 km range)
  • Max: approx. €38,400 (691 HP, 0-100 km/h in 3 seconds)

Our verdict

Xiaomi SU7 is not just a car, but a declaration of war against Tesla and German manufacturers. The success is overwhelming: 15,000 orders in the first 8 hours after the launch of the new package. Unfortunately, for now, the only way a Romanian can enjoy an SU7 is to watch videos on the internet, as Xiaomi does not yet have official export plans outside mainland China.
