Dacia dominates the LPG market in Europe: 89% market share for the Renault Group in 2025
The GPL King: How Dacia conquered Europe in 2025 through the LPG segment
The year 2025 marked a historic moment for the European automotive industry and, in particular, for the brand from Mioveni. In an era dominated by intense debates about electrification, Dacia demonstrated that pragmatism wins hands down, becoming the undisputed leader in the LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) fueled car segment on the "Old Continent".
We are not just talking about a simple leadership position, but about an almost total domination of a niche that the Renault Group, through Dacia, strategically bet on a few years ago.
The figures of absolute domination
The European LPG car market recorded a solid 10% growth in 2025 compared to the previous year, reaching a total volume of 347,717 units. In this landscape, Dacia's performance is truly spectacular:
- Total Dacia LPG sales: 228,962 units.
- Market share: The Renault Group (through Dacia) holds 89% of this segment in Europe.
- Star model: Sandero accounted for more than half of the brand's sales in this segment, confirming its status as "the best-selling car to private customers in Europe."
While Dacia holds the lead, the competition watches from a distance. The Italian-Chinese company DR Motor ranked second with a share of 6.2%, followed by the Hyundai-Kia group with 3.8%.
The map of success: From Italian tradition to Spanish explosion
Dacia's success was not uniform, but adapted to the specifics of each market. Here is the ranking of the main countries where the "Eco-G" became the preferred engine:
| Rank | Country | LPG Units Sold | Evolution vs. 2024 |
| 1 | Italy | 141,147 | -2.4% (Mature market) |
| 2 | Spain | 59,284 | +77% (Highest growth) |
| 3 | France | 3rd Place | Sustained growth |
| 4 | Romania | 22,675 | +47% |
In Romania, the appetite for LPG has grown exponentially, with our country climbing to 4th place in the European top. The direct savings at the pump and the extended autonomy have convinced over 22,000 Romanians to choose this mixed solution.
Technological evolution: LPG is no longer "budget"
The big news of 2025 was technological refinement. Dacia dispelled the myth that LPG is reserved only for manual and cheap cars.
By launching the Duster models and, especially, the new C-segment SUV, Bigster, Dacia introduced revolutionary engines:
- Eco-G 140 Mild Hybrid: A premiere that combines the benefits of LPG with a 48V mild hybrid system, offering better torque and reduced emissions.
- Automatic Transmission and 4x4: For the first time, customers could opt for LPG versions equipped with all-wheel drive and automatic transmission (on the new Hybrid-G 150 engine), a combination that until recently seemed impossible in this segment.
- Record autonomy: Thanks to the two tanks (gasoline + LPG), the new models can travel up to 1,500 km without stopping at the gas station.
Why did Dacia win this bet?
The secret to success was factory integration. Unlike aftermarket installations, Dacia's Eco-G system offers:
- Full manufacturer warranty.
- Maximum safety by integrating protection systems directly into the car's computer.
- Immediate savings: The cost per kilometer remains up to 40% lower than gasoline, even in the context of fuel price fluctuations.
"Dacia is no longer just an affordable alternative; in 2025, it has become the rational choice of the European who wants modern technology but refuses to pay premium prices for mobility."
