BMW Group Romania kicks off network modernization: The first Retail.Next showroom was inaugurated at Auto Cobalcescu

Goodbye, Cinnamon Offices: BMW Reinvents the Automotive Experience in Romania with the “Retail.Next” Concept

Bucharest becomes the zero kilometer for the new visual identity of the BMW Group in the region. With the inauguration of the Auto Cobălcescu showroom, the era of car dealers resembling cold banking institutions is ending, giving way to a space that is more reminiscent of an exclusive interior design lounge.

It's no secret that the way we shop has changed radically, and the automotive industry is no exception. Recently, BMW Group Romania stepped on the accelerator in the transformation process of its network, marking the completion of the first "Retail.Next" project in the Capital, in partnership with Auto Cobălcescu.

This move is not just a simple aesthetic renovation (a “fresh coat of paint” on the walls), but a fundamental change in philosophy. Here’s what this means for the future of customers in Romania:

1. From "Commerce" to "Connection"

The new showroom breaks down the physical barriers between client and consultant. Gone are the massive offices and formal barriers. In their place, visitors are greeted by:

  • "Living" type relaxation areas: Comfortable sofas and warm materials that invite discussion, not rigid negotiation.
  • Fluid route: Cars are no longer "aligned to the ratio", but displayed so that they can be admired from natural angles, in a lifestyle context.
  • A holistic experience: The BMW and MINI brands now coexist more harmoniously, reflecting the diversity of the group's portfolio.

2. “Seamless” Digitization

BMW understands that the purchasing process begins from the comfort of your own home, on your tablet or phone. The new location integrates digital solutions that allow:

  • Multichannel Setup: You can start customizing a model online and complete it in the showroom, on large screens, with an expert.
  • Total Transparency: Information about specifications and availability is just a click away, eliminating stacks of old-fashioned brochures.

The Modernization Plan in brief

BMW is not stopping in Bucharest. The strategy is aggressive and targets the entire country in the next two years.

Objective Details
Pioneer Location Auto Cobălcescu, Bucharest
National Target All 16 showrooms within the local network
Timeline Full process completion by 2027
Strategic Focus Elevating customer experience and preparing for the Neue Klasse

Preparing the ground for the "Neue Klasse"

This transformation of the retail network is, in reality, the "red carpet" laid out for the biggest technological revolution in the brand's history: Neue Klasse.

With the launch of the upcoming BMW iX3 (the first model in this new electric family), showrooms must be able to explain much more complex technologies — from the new cylindrical battery cells that promise a 30% longer range to the revolutionary BMW Panoramic Vision interface. Such an advanced product could not be sold in an old-generation retail space.

"Retail.Next is not just about design, but about how we feel when we interact with a premium brand. It is the transition from selling a car to offering a destination point," say the group's representatives.

The bottom line? BMW is betting that, although the future is digital, the thrill of getting behind the wheel and configuring the car of your dreams in a welcoming environment remains irreplaceable.
